JP3 Measurement Systems

Founded over a decade ago, JP3 has grown into the leading technology company in the oil and gas analyzer market. The firm’s line of advanced Veraxanalyzers, launched in 2012, are now utilized across the upstream, midstream and downstream segments for real-time process control and custody transfer. Customers range from small independent producers to midstream MLPs to majors operating refineries across the globe.

The Veraxanalyzer is an optical analyzer that utilizes spectroscopy and chemometrics to determine the chemical composition and physical properties of a hydrocarbon stream.   With real-time analysis, no moving parts, higher reliability, and lower installation and maintenance costs, the Verax outperforms traditional oil and gas analyzers across the board.

The working principle of the Verax is straightforward: light is directed through a hydrocarbon stream and detected on the opposite side. The spectral absorbance (light that does not make it all the way through the hydrocarbon) is measured and interpreted with chemometrics to give a detailed analysis of the process stream.

Similar technology has been used in refineries, petrochemical plants, food and beverage facilities, and pharmaceutical manufacturing for decades. However, the Veraxanalyzer is the first device to make the technology deployable in the harsh field conditions required by the oil and gas industry. As a result, Verax technology provides excellent reliability and durability for years of service and allows oil and gas companies to benefit from measurements and data that was previously unavailable.

Application

JP3 delivers real-time and on-line compositional and physical property measurements across the upstream, midstream and downstream segments of the oil and gas industry. JP3’s Verax family of Near-Infrared analyzers are designed specifically for oil and gas applications.

With faster measurement times, up to eight independent spectrometer detectors, enhanced optical components, and a new flow cell, Veraxanalyzers provide significant improvements in measurement speed, quality, repeatability, stability, and reliability in even the harshest environments. Natural gas or liquids can be accurately analyzed to obtain hydrocarbon composition, Vapor Pressure, BTU, API gravity, and many other physical properties. The Verax flow cell is installed in the process at operating pressure and temperature requiring no sampling or conditioning systems. Each process stream can support any number of compositional and physical measurements. Our advanced technology means the Veraxanalyzer produces no emissions and requires no carrier gases or calibration gases.

By using this optical technique combining spectroscopy and chemometrics, the Veraxis able to produce real time information with no moving parts and no sampling system. This results in much faster and reliable information, high instrument uptime and close to zero maintenance costs.
